Disaster Management was never a project for us but our role in the society. We never imagine that a disaster would occur but it does and at that time we want to be prepared to help overcome the situation it has caused.
When the global health crisis made its way in India in 2020, the Trust responded immediately, committing itself towards Covid-19 relief initiatives. With the pandemic putting stress on the country’s health ecosystem and the shortfall in equipment needed to fight an infectious outbreak, it was imperative that relief measures address these and other critical lacunae.
In an urgent need to deal with an unprecedented health crisis that’s over- burdening the nation’s health-care system, leaving millions at risk of exposure and adding to the vulnerabilities of India’s frontline workers, the Trust are leveraging technology, funds and manpower to raise awareness, provide personal protective equipment (PPED) such as face masks and sanitizers to health workers across the country, offer health care to a suffering populace, screening and providing food, vegetables, fruits and ration for reducing the plight of the migrant populace, daily wage earners and underprivileged families, residing in Madurai.
With no income during nation-wide lockdown, the families lost access to the most basic necessity – food. Countless have been going without food for days and their very survival is now at risk. At Voice Trust, our efforts are now focused on their health and safety.
While our food kits of rations – rice, pulses, potatoes, oil, salt and biscuits – are providing them with sustenance, the masks and soaps are protecting them against the virus. Our work started from 7th April 2020.
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
Frontline workers needed personal protective equipment (PPE) including, masks, and hand sanitizers to protect them from infection. The Trusts procured PPE and provided them free of cost to frontline workers and hospital care givers.
Voice Trust engaged in the process of manufacture of masks- Vocational Skill development.
The mass level of Stitching of face masks took place at Thirumangalam for a period of one week from 10-04-2020. Around 25, 000 masks were produced and distributed to people in need especially the sanitary workers and underprivileged who were not able to afford them.

Virtual Consultation
As lockdown continued, private and government hospitals shut down non- essential services like outpatient consultations. Patients suffering from BP, diabetes, fever, cough and other minor diseases had nowhere to go. People in rural and semi-rural areas were the worst hit.
The Trust sprang into action, leveraging technology to connect care-seekers and caregivers. The Trusts had already been working on a tele-health programme as part of their Health Systems Transformation Platform in Madurai. Under the Government of India’s Remote Medical Services Program, Voice Trust has been the partner of Tata Tele medicine. The biggest advantage for patients is that they can now consult the best doctors in the county remotely and get treated for their illness. Since the first week of May 2020, we have initiated a telemedicine project to serve the needs of communities in the remotest parts of Madurai, Theni, Bodi and Kadamalaikundu.
