Clean Environment Management

Environmental cleanliness management program was held on 28th March 2022 to NSS Students of Solamalai Engineering College, Madurai. The importance of a clean Environment and the role of students in it were explained in detail by Voice Trust Director, Mr Murugesan. The environment must be kept clean in order to live a healthy life. Cleanliness also has an essential part in a country’s growth. Cleanliness creates jobs for a large number of people, thus resolving the issue of unemployment and reducing poverty. People are more likely to perform better job in a clean workplace because it reduces stress and allows them to concentrate on their task. It is also important for maintaining a clean lifestyle, as it lowers the risk of illness and infection from the environment. A country’s growth is aided by cleanliness.

Saving the Street Dogs

On a daily basis, Voice Trust in association with Madurai Friends Lion’s Club provide Milk, bread, non-vegetarian food and medical assistance to hungry and helpless street dogs of Madurai.

Millions of stray dogs live on the streets of India. Most are direct descendants of their feral canine ancestors, a “breed” much older than any AKC (American Kennel Club) breed. With the recent increase in popularity among Indians of full breed dogs, more and more street dogs are abandoned pets or have bred with pet breeds. Although they are widely feared because some carry rabies, for the most part India’s street dogs are not aggressive and will only bite if provoked. Indeed, many are fearful of humans and sadly, the dogs’ fears are well founded. India’s street dog population is closely associated with municipal sanitation practices – or neglect thereof. Because these homeless dogs often survive by scavenging rubbish, exposed garbage means more healthy dogs – and more puppies. Ironically, this actually makes the dogs a boon to public sanitation. By scavenging garbage, they reduce perishable waste that could otherwise be a source of contamination for people. And their presence around garbage keeps away other potentially dangerous scavengers, such as rats and mice.

Unfortunately, fear and ignorance have led many Indian citizens and officials to see street dogs as nothing but a nuisance and to seek eradication using inhumane methods such as poisoning and beating. But for every dog killed, another typically comes in to take over that dog’s territory. The only scientific method to humanely reduce street dog populations is mass spay and neuters, commonly known as animal birth control (ABC).

Our trust empowers individuals through Educate for aware Health & Sanitation. More than one third of the world’s population still lacks access to adequate sanitation. World Toilet Organization addresses the sanitation crisis by empowering local communities through powerful advocacy, education, inventive technology and local marketplace opportunities.

“The benefits for India’s poor, its environment – and the safety of its girls and women – could be truly revolutionary”. Building the toilets will be only part of the challenge. Even more important is getting people to use them, now and in the future. Hundreds of abandoned sanitation projects across the developing world testify to the fact that this is no easy feat, and that simply assuming that it will happen is a recipe for failure. We initiative is one small step to help change the sanitation behaviour of communities who are currently prone to diseases borne through open defecation.
