Road Safety Awareness Program For College Students

An impactful road safety awareness program was organized by Voice Trust in association with the Student Services Division Center at Virudhunagar Hindu Nadars’ Senthikumara Nadar College (Autonomous), Virudhunagar on February 6th 2024.

The event commenced with a warm welcome from Captain Dr. N. Alagumani Kumaran, the NCC Officer, who greeted the attendees with enthusiasm and set the tone for the program.Dr. A. Sarathy, the esteemed College Principal, presided over the function, emphasizing the significance of promoting road safety among college students. Mr. Sarpparajan, the College Secretary, delivered a felicitation address, underlining the importance of collective efforts in ensuring road safety.

The highlight of the event was the presence of Mr. T. Murugesan, the Director of Voice Trust and a Member of the District Road Safety Committee who graced the occasion as the chief guest. Mr. Murugesan delivered an insightful awareness program, shedding light on the critical need for road safety measures and strategies.

Following this, Mr. V. Pandian, the Road Safety Manager of Madurai to Kanyakumari Tollway Ltd, shared valuable insights into the significance of road signs, adherence to road rules, and the alarming statistics of vehicle accidents reported annually. His presentation emphasized the importance of responsible driving habits. A pivotal moment of the program was when the students collectively took an oath to abide by the rules of the road, pledging their commitment to responsible and safe driving practices.

In conclusion, Mr. S. V. Selvam, the National Philanthropy Program Officer, expressed gratitude and extended a heartfelt vote of thanks to all the dignitaries, participants, and organizers for their contributions to the success of the event.The seamless execution and coordination of the program were made possible by the dedicated efforts of Dr. N. Nirmalkumar, the Dean of Student Services, and further supported by Dr. J. Pandiyarajan, the National Student Corps, and the National Welfare Project Teams.Through this comprehensive road safety awareness program, the college aimed to instill a sense of responsibility and vigilance among students, contributing towards creating safer roads and communities for all.

Road Safety program at the Gram Sabha Meeting

A Gram Sabha Meeting serves as a cornerstone of grassroots democracy, embodying the collective spirit of community participation and decisionmaking. On January 26th, 2024, the vibrant village of Poonjuthi in Madurai District convened for such a meeting, graced by the esteemed presence of Madurai District Collector, Ms. Sanjeetha IAS, alongside local dignitaries including the Poonjuthi Panchayat president and Director of Voice Trust, Mr. T Murugesan. Amidst the spirited gathering of village residents, this meeting transcended its traditional bounds to address pressing contemporary concerns, notably road safety. In partnership with CUBE Highways, Voice Trust took the reins in delivering a comprehensive Road Safety Program, leveraging presentations and pamphlet distribution to empower villagers with knowledge and tools for safer road practices. Through this collaborative effort, the Gram Sabha Meeting evolved into a platform for not only governance but also community education and collective action, exemplifying the power of grassroots initiatives in fostering social welfare and empowerment.

Road Safety Awareness Program

On January 20th 2024, Voice Trust, in collaboration with Madurai Kanyakumari Tollways Ltd, organized a road safety awareness event in commemoration of the 35th National Road Safety Month. The event featured various activities aimed at educating the community about the importance of road safety. NSS students from Mannar Thirumalai Naickar College led a march to raise awareness, symbolizing unity in advocating for safer roads. Additionally, tree saplings were distributed to promote environmental consciousness alongside road safety efforts. Students delivered a skit focusing on road safety awareness, engaging the audience through creative storytelling. Moreover, informative sessions were conducted to impart knowledge about traffic regulations, safe driving practices, and the importance of adhering to road safety measures. This collaborative initiative highlights the commitment of Voice Trust and Madurai Kanyakumari Tollways Ltd to prioritize public safety and foster a culture of responsible road behavior within the community.

Road Safety Awareness for School Children

On January 18th, 2024, a Road Safety Awareness event was orchestrated for the students of Govt Higher Secondary School, Kalikudi, as part of the observance of the 35th National Road Safety Month. Spearheaded by Voice Trust in collaboration with CUBE Highways, the initiative aimed to instill crucial road safety knowledge among the young participants. Through engaging activities, informative sessions, and interactive demonstrations, the event sought to equip the students with essential skills and awareness regarding safe pedestrian practices, traffic rules, and responsible road behavior. By partnering with educational institutions and industry stakeholders, this endeavor reflects a proactive approach towards nurturing a culture of road safety from a young age, ultimately contributing to the well-being and security of communities.

Road safety awareness campaign

On January 17th, 2024, Voice Trust, in partnership with Kanyakumari Etturvattam Tollways Ltd, conducted a road safety awareness campaign to mark the 35th National Road Safety Month. The initiative focused on reaching out to drivers and commuters passing through the tollways to promote safe driving practices. As part of the activities, pamphlets containing essential road safety tips were distributed to vehicles passing through the toll plaza. Additionally, stickers emphasizing road safety messages were affixed onto vehicles, serving as constant reminders to drivers. Moreover, volunteers engaged in direct interactions with drivers, providing verbal awareness sessions to emphasize the importance of adhering to traffic rules, maintaining vehicle safety, and being mindful of pedestrian rights. This concerted effort aimed to enhance awareness and encourage responsible behavior among road users, contributing to the overarching goal of reducing road accidents and ensuring safer journeys for all.

National Road Safety Week 2023 at Dindigul

In accordance with the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, the Government of India observing the Road Safety Week between 11th to 17th January 2023, under “Swachhata Pakhwada” to propagate the cause of safer roads for all, Voice Trust in association with TN (DK) Expressways Ltd Madhucon and TES (Theme Engineering Services Pvt. Ltd), coordinated by National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and Project implementation unit Dindigul observed the National Road Safety Week 2023. On 13th Jan 2023, the event started with an inaugural function at Velunchettiur Toll Plaza, Dindigul District. Mr V Baskaran Superintendent of Police, Dindigul District inaugurated the Program. Mr T Murugesan Managing Director of Voice Trust presided over the function with a welcome address. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion included, Mr. Nitin Prem, Project In-charge TN (DK) Expressways Ltd, Er Durai Rathinam Director of GTN Educational Group, Er Jeyachandran Site Engineer NHAI PIU Dindigul, Mr. Dharmand RTO Karur, Mr. Thanabal Dindigul, Mr. K.Krishna Reddy Asst Project Manager TN (DK) Expressways Ltd, Mr. B.Malligarjun AGM TN (DK) Expressways Ltd, Mr. G Ganesh Plaza Manager TN (DK) Expressways Ltd, Mr. K.Sakhthivel Admin Officer TN (DK) Expressways Ltd, Mr. M.Murugesan Quantity Surveyor TN (DK) Expressways Ltd.

Road Safety Awareness Rally was carried out by 100 students of G.T.N Arts College Dindigul with support from Voice Trust to create road safety awareness and prevent causalities. Students held placards and banners with thoughtful messages and road safety awareness slogans in the procession. The awareness program was successfully organized with the help of the Traffic police department and Public Support. The other activities included Oath taking by all dignitaries, Toll Plaza Staff, Participants, College students, Stalk Holders, and Road users, the Release of Posters on Road Safety, a Signature campaign, Awareness about “Save Your Self- Save Your Family” and more during the rally in velanchettiyur village.

National Road Safety Week was celebrated at Aravakurichi Panchayat Union Middle School. District Education Officers Mr. Pandidurai and Mr. Sathishkumar presided over the event. Road awareness painting competitions were held. The students were awarded a certificate, medal, and geometry toolbox for the top 10 works. 62 students were given certificates and a special consolation prize. On the Occasion, Cultural programs on Road awareness were performed by students of Thirumalai Mannar College like Karakattam, Oyilattam, and Paraiyattam The whole program was coordinated by Voice Trust.

Pamphlet distribution events were carried out at Velunchettiur Toll Plaza, to the Public Road Users, Employees, Nearby villages, and Urban Areas. Stickers on Road Safety were pasted on passing vehicles near the Toll Plaza. Commuters are asked to use helmets and seat belts to highlight the importance of road safety. VoiceTrust in association with Meenakshi Misson Hospital & Research Center Hospital organized Free Medical Camp and Eye Camp. Doctors screened participants for general health parameters such as sugar and blood pressure levels. General Medical Consultation and check-ups, Heart Test (ECG) examinations were also conducted. Auto, taxi, school bus, and heavy vehicle drivers, and General Public were screened at the camps. Free Eye tests were conducted for the general public and passing drivers. The eye checkup team was headed by eye specialist Dr. Sivaraman deputed by Meenakshi Mission Hospital.

34th National Road Safety Week - 2023 in Madurai

Road Safety Week (RSW) is observed under the aegis of the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways, Govt. of India every year. In accordance with this, Voice Trust in association with CUBE Highways supported by Madurai – Kanyakumari Tollway Limited, Kanyakumari-Etturavattam Tollway Limited, Salaipudhur – Madurai Tollway Limited and Nanguneri – Kanyakumari Tollway Limited organized “Road Safety Awareness” in 4 Toll plazas (Kappalur Toll Plaza, Sattur Toll Plaza, Salaipudur Toll Plaza, Nanguneri Toll Plaza) from 11th Jan to 17th Jan 2023. The inaugural function was held on the 11th Jan 2023 at Kappalur Toll Plaza, Madurai. The program began with a welcome address by Mr. Ambati Srinivasa Kiran Kumar, Project Head of South TOT. He gave a brief talk on the importance of observing Road Safety Week. Mr. R. Shiva Prasad IPS, Superintendent of Police Madurai District honored the event by flag hoisting. The other dignitaries who graced the occasion included, Mrs. R Soundarya, RDO Thirumangalam, Mr. Vasandha Kumar DSP Thirumangalam, Mr Sampat Kumar, RTO Thirumangalam. Mr. T Murugesan, Director of Voice Trust felicitated the program, urging all to follow safety rules and contribute to reducing incidents.

The activities organized included Oath taking by all dignitaries and Toll Plaza staff, participants, College Students, Stalk Holders, and Road users, the Release of Posters on Road Safety, Street play, and cultural programs on Road Safety, a Rally by 50 students from Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai. The motive behind organizing the rally was to develop the student as a national power and to make them think about development, in which road safety plays an important role.

Pamphlets were distributed containing road safety tips in the event of National Road Safety Week 2023. The commuters were made aware of the traffic rules and regulations. To create awareness about Road Safety for children, at Govt High School Thuvariman on Road safety, theme-based poster-making, and quiz competitions were organized.

A signature campaign was organized to create awareness among people regarding road safety and traffic norms. Various walks of people and participants pledged not to drink and drive, not to over speed, to follow all road safety rules, always wear helmets and seat belts during driving. Voice Trust in association with Velammal Hospital organized Free Medical Camp and Eye Camp for the General public and community spread along the Highways in urban semi-urban areas, so as to reduce accidents on the roads and enforce traffic manners effectively. At the Free Medical camp, Doctors from Hospitals screened participants for general health parameters such as sugar and blood pressure levels. General Medical Consultation and check, Heart Test (ECG). The overall project was coordinated and completed under the successful leadership of VOICE TRUST Managing Director, Thiru. T. Murugesan and his team.

Project on 32nd National Road Safety Month 2021

“Road Safety Month” is observed from 18th January 2021 to 17th February 2021 throughout the country every year in order to highlight and emphasize the need for safe roads. It is also an opportunity for all stakeholders to contribute to the cause by taking up activities to promote the concept. The theme of this year is, “Road Safety- Life Safety”.

This year (2021), Voice Trust in association with NHAI, and CUBE Highways implemented the project on Road Safety from 18th Jan to 17th Feb 2021 in Toll Plazas (Kappalur Toll Plaza, Sattur Toll Plaza, Salaipudur Toll Plaza, and Nanguneri Toll Plaza) to spread awareness regarding road safety and reduce road accidents with support from Tollways Ltd (Madurai – Kanyakumari, Kanyakumari – Etturvattam, Salaipudur – Madurai, Nanguneri – Kanyakumari) The activities organized included Chief Guest’s message on the Importance of Road Safety, Oath taking by all dignitaries and Toll Plaza staff, participants, College Students, Stalk Holders, and Road users, Release of Posters on Road Safety, Signature Campaign, Rally by 50 students from Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai, pamphlets distribution, Fire Extinguisher Training, Competitions and prize distribution in schools.

Road Safety Awareness RTO Office

Road Safety has been one of the priority areas in which Voice Trust Madurai has been concentrating in the last decade. Regularly through sponsors and in collaboration with the Madurai District Transport, Police, Health and Revenue authorities Voice Trust Madurai has been conducting various programs among the students, drivers, and the general public to bring home that safety on the roads for the drivers and the pedestrians should be given the needed importance they deserve. During the occasion, the people especially the school and college students were taught the basics of First Aid during accidents and the dos and don’ts to be followed in dealing with accident victims.

In a bid to spread awareness regarding safe driving and to provide safety advice to the public, Voice Trust in association with the Regional Transport Office (RTO), South organized a Road Safety Awareness Drive at the RTO compound which was attended by more than 100 people. The participants included the general public, Drivers, and people who had come to apply for Learning License Registration.

Regional Transport Officer (South) Thiru Senthil Kumar inaugurated the function. A free testing drive was also conducted for those who came for procuring a driving license. This test drive was conducted using simulators.

The program was organized as part of the ongoing Road Safety Month by the Government of India. Trainer Mr. Subramanian informed that large sections of people participated in the test drive.

Technical methods were adopted to guide people about road safety on the occasion. A simulator was used to instruct people about all the basic driving and safety techniques. Considering the importance of road safety Month, people were taught about various driving nuances including the right and safe way to ride, the right manner of overtaking, proper use of brakes, turning at a safe speed, danger prediction, the right use of headlight beams, distance to be kept while driving and other rules.

People were also guided about the road signs and markings used on roads. People were also taught about important road markings like a single white line mark on the road which means separation of lanes where lane changing is discouraged, yellow dots on roads which signify overtaking from one side to the other is permitted, and a yellow line mark on the road which means overtaking prohibited.

Road Safety Awareness in Tuticorin

Carelessness on roads is becoming a major cause of deaths and accidents in India and the world.32nd Road Safety Awareness program was organized in Tuticorin, Pearl City by Voice Trust on 4th Feb 2021, in association with Apollo Hospitals Chennai, Mahendra Group, Suji Healthcare Madurai, Lions Club, and Rotary Club of SPIC Nagar in the following places:

  • SPIC Nagar Township area
  • Superintendent of Police Office, Tuticorin
  • NTPL Thermal Power Station, Tuticorin

32nd National Road Safety Month 2021 theme, ‘Safe yourself to save your family’. Apply all the safety measures while going through a vehicle and always follow the traffic rules. If we do not save ourselves then it is more chance to be in problem. Only you and I know how much important we are to our family. Keep it in mind and drive safely drive carefully.

The program in SPIC was inaugurated by Thiru S.R. Ramakrishnan, WTD, SPIC Ltd, and Thiru. E. Balu, COO, of Green Star Fertilizers Ltd. Thiru K.S. Gopalakrishnan, CEO, of NTPL, inaugurated the Road Safety Awareness program in NTPL.

In all three places, a talk was given by Apollo Hospitals Chennai Doctors. First Aid and BLS messages and hands-on training were given by paramedics. Road safety information leaflets were distributed to all present at the function. BLS booklets were also distributed. Bulls Eye stickers were pasted on the vehicle’s headlight. Two-wheeler helmet distribution also rolled out successfully. In the era of this COVID-19 pandemic, the importance of healthcare cannot be undermined. With Road Safety being a very important healthcare issue, Voice Trust celebrated celebrating 32nd National Road Safety Month 2021, as decided by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

We believe that it would be a small yet significant step forward in developing an understanding and spreading awareness in the community.

Road Safety Awareness in Tirunelveli District

India has the second biggest road network in the world after the US, and about eighty thousand people are killed in road crashes every year which is 13% of the total fatality all over the world. The man behind the wheel plays an important role in most of the crashes. In most cases, crashes occur either due to carelessness or due to a lack of road safety awareness of the road user. Hence, road safety education is as essential as any other basic skill.

Voice Trust in association with Apollo Hospitals Chennai, Rotary Club, and Suji Healthcare Madurai Organised the “Road Safety Awareness Programme” on 03.02.2021 in accordance with Road Safety Month ( from 1st Feb to 4th Feb) observed by the Government of India at the following places in Tirunelveli District.

Selvaraj Correspondent, Magdalene Matric. Hr. Sec. School Welcomed the audience. Rtn. Dr. A. Prabakar offered Vote of Thanks.

The Road Safety Awareness Program was conducted in association with Rotary Club for the Lawyers General Public. This Program was inaugurated by the District Court Judge.

  • Manonmaniam Sundaranar University, Tirunelveli

Vice Chancellor Dr. K. Pitchumani inaugurated the Road Safety Awareness Program. Students and teachers of the University benefitted from the program.

Doctors of Apollo Hospitals conducted a Demo on First Aid in all of the above-mentioned places. A guide on First Aid was also distributed to all the students and teachers.

This “Road Safety Awareness Program” was conducted at the following places on 2nd Feb 2021.

This awareness program aimed at sensitizing people on various road safety principles to follow in order to avoid fatal incidents while using roads. The key of the program was to impart public awareness, provide hands-on training on Basic Life Support & First Aid, and distribute leaflets.

Collector, Thiru Anbalagan IAS officer inaugurated the program and his graceful presence at the ceremony was a source of inspiration for all.

Road Safety Awareness Programme was conducted by Madurai Voice Trust and Sivakasi Transport Regional Office for the students of Arasan Ganesan Polytechnic and Sivakasi College on 04.09.2019.

Voice Trust Madurai has been developing cost-effective dynamic tools to enhance the efficiency and deliverability of Road Safety within the existing legal framework. Voice Trust Madurai has been pre-eminent in spreading the message about road safety through a wide variety of grass-root activities aimed at raising awareness amongst all levels of society as to the risks and consequences associated with a lack of road safety awareness.

Voice Trust Madurai strongly feels that partnering with media provides impetus to the initiative and has a close association with local and national media both electronic and print. Voice Trust Madurai believes that community involvement can give strong support to the cause of road safety and motivate political will, thus enabling road safety actions to be prioritized and implemented.
