Training for SHG Women’s
Voice Trust organized a training on“ Nursery development and Horticulture crops” on February 06 th and 7th 2015, in the State Horticulture Farm poovani, Srivilliputhur for SHG women with the support of Integrated Watershed Management Programme (IWMP), Govt. Of Tamilnadu. Mr. Periyasamy, Asst. Executive Engineer (Rtd.), Agri. Engineering inaugurated the programme. Mr. T. Murugesan, Founder Voice Trust delivered a special address The Trainer, Mr. Marimuthu, Asst. Horticulture Director, Srivilliputhur conducted teaching sessions on the cultivation of Herbal and Medicinal Plants. He explained that Horticultural Crops provide gainful employment to small farmers and agricultural labourers throughout the year. One hectare of fruit production generates 860 man-days per annum as against 143 man-days for cereal crops.
This Programme was funded by Madurai Corporation. A total amount of Rs. Three Lakhs was earmarked for the Conduct of this programme. Around 400 women from various self Help Groups in the Madurai Corporation area were the Beneficiaries through the Training Programme. The Training was organized over a period of one week in the month of April 2015. During the Training Programme for each day, one Particular theme was covered. General Health with special reference to Mother-Child and family health was the topic for the first day. The Second-day theme was water and sanitation. During the third day, it was about anaemia.
