Free General Medical and Eye Camp Held in Ramnad
On October 8, 2024, Voice Trust, in collaboration with Meenakshi Mission Hospital & Research Centre, Billion Hearts Beating, and Suji Healthcare Madurai, organized a Free General Medical and Eye Camp in Ramnad as part of its Targeted Intervention project. The camp offered a range of health services to the public, including blood sugar testing, ECG, heart checkup, blood pressure monitoring, general health checkups, and free medicines.
The Eye Camp provided screenings for conditions such as short-sightedness, myopia, cataracts, glaucoma, and general eye health. LASIK and General Eye Awareness Program for Students
On 1st October 2024, Voice Trust, in collaboration with Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals, Madurai, conducted a LASIK and General Eye Awareness Program for the students of Mannar Thirumalai Naicker College, Madurai. The event was held at Maxivision Super Speciality Eye Hospitals, and around 50 students attended the program.
This initiative was part of an ongoing eye care awareness effort, with the primary objective of educating students about LASIK surgery and general eye health. Eminent doctors from Maxivision provided detailed insights into LASIK, explaining its benefits and suitability. Additionally, Mr. Murugesan addressed the students, focusing on the importance of general eye health, preventive measures, and common vision issues.

On the 29th Nov 2023, Eye Screening camp was conducted at Income Tax Office Madurai for the benefit of the employees. Smt Seema Singh IRS, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax inaugurated the camp. Mr Sathish Babu IRS, Dr Rajkumar Bernard, Regional Director Maxivision Eye Hospital graced the event.

Eye awareness to Retired Pensioners on Wolrd Sight Day
This year, on October 12, 2023, we mark World Sight Day with a unique focus – the importance of eye care to retired pensioners. Vision can change drastically in the senior years, but these changes do not need to impair one’s quality of life with proper eye care. No matter where you are or what job you do, it is important to prioritize and protect your eye health. Vision loss is insidious, often robbing individuals of their sight before they even realize it. It is imperative that we prioritize eye health alongside other essential health interventions to ensure that problems can be diagnosed, treated, and, in many cases, cured.

The School children of Govt. Primary School, Y.Othakkadai, Madurai underwent Free Eye Sreening Programme. This event was organized by Voice Trust in association with and Dr Agarwal’s Eye Hospital Lions Club of Madurai Cosmos. Early detection and treatment of childhood ocular problems has a huge role in eliminating avoidable causes of visual impairment in our country. The various eye ailments of the students were screened and rectified by efficient doctors. About 500 children benefited from this camp.

Eye Awareness Program at Sourastra Boys Secondary School, Madurai
World Sight Day (WSD) is an annual day of awareness held on the second Thursday of October, to focus global attention on blindness and vision impairment. A free Eye Awareness programme on World Eyesight Day was organized at Sourastra Boys Secondary School in association with Voice Trust, Suji Health Care and Lions Club of Madurai Friends The welcome address was given by Mr. Srinivasan, Principal of the School. Mr. Veeraasamy, special guest of the event, said; now days there are more schoolchildren with eye disorders. Students use most of their time on cell phones. Voice Trust Managing Director Mr. Murugesan and Lions Club Executive Mr. Murthy graced the occasion. About 150 students participated in the event.
EYE DONATION AWARENESS
Blindness is one of the major public health problems in the developing countries. According to World Health Organization, corneal diseases (Damage to the tissue covering the front of eye called cornea) are among the major causes of vision loss and blindness, after cataract and glaucoma. In most cases, loss of sight can be corrected through “Eye Donation” After the death of a person, various organs can be donated and can be surgically transplanted to the patients who need them. One such organ is the eye .By donating eyes after death, a corneal blind person can see again through a surgical procedure known as corneal transplantation, where by the damaged cornea is replaced by a healthy cornea from the eye donor. Voice Trust in association with Suji HealthCare conducted an “Eye Donation Awareness camp” at Vellaichamy Nadar College, Madurai as part of the National Welfare Program. The programme was presided by Mr. Jawahar, Principal of the college. The special invitee for the ceremony was Mr. Veerasamy, a Senior ophthalmologist, said that if one donates one eye, it can be used for up to four people. He said that students should be aware of the donation and make it known to others. Director of Voice Trust said that the students should be restrained from using their cell phone for long period of time. The event was attended by Lions Club Mr. Natarajan. Dr. Senthil Pandiyan, Welfare Program Officer ended the programme with vote of thanks.

Project on“A Journey from Dusk to Dawn”-a Joint Effort of Voice Trust India and own days Singapore.
The project Dusk to Dawn took place across two blocks of Madurai, Madurai East and Melur. More than 8000 people – men women and children were investigated by expert ophthalmologists and optometrists. Around 8 government aided and corporation schools came under the purview of the project. 1200 spectacles were distributed to the needy targeted population. 3200 children and around 110 teachers in the schools benefited out of the Blindness Prevention Awareness Programmes. Two optometrists with hired apparatus carried out the activities project with support from the local volunteers and other staff members of VOICE Trust. OWNDAYS Singapore funded the project and also supplied the spectacles to the beneficiaries as per the prescriptions.
EYE CARE AWARENESS & SCREENING CAMPS
We regularly conduct FREE EDUCATIVE LECTURE ON TOTAL EYE CARE and hold FREE EYE CAMPS for benefit of masses at societies, schools, colleges, and organisations. We also visit schools for eye check up of students.
Diabetic Retinopathy Diseases – Eye Care and Awareness Campaign
On the 14th of Nov 2021, World Diabetes Day, Voice Trust in association with Dr. Agarwals Speciality Eye Hospital, The International Lions Clubs, District 324B, and Madurai Friends Lions Club organized Medical Specialists awareness program aimed at preventing diabetic Retinopathy and helping the visually impaired and the General public.
What is Diabetic Retinopathy?
Diabetic retinopathy occurs when high blood sugar levels cause damage to blood vessels in the retina.
