Our History

VOICE TRUST was registered in 1997 to enhance the well-being of the rural people living in relatively isolated and sparsely populated areas in southern Tamil Nadu.

In the course of time, our trust realized the significance of ensuring community health in all rural areas of the district besides social and economic development initiatives. Consequently, our trust focused mainly on health care of marginalized deprived, suppressed communities in villages and hamlets where medical facilities are not available. The trust is now a well-established Health care organization recognized by the government, hospitals, and distraught downtrodden communities.

Founder’s Desk

I am happy that VOICE TRUST Madurai since its inception has progressed tremendously well during the past decade and come to the present deeply routed in Madurai and the neighboring districts. Especially the activities during the past two years and the contacts that we made have been very significant in giving a strategic new direction to VOICE TRUST Madurai. Now we are firmly entrenched in the project and mission mode and in the coming year VOICE TRUST MADURAI will hopefully be gaining by way resources and reaching out to a wider population to cater to their health, educational and skill development and safety and security needs through thematic and integrated projects that are in the pipeline.

We surrender before God Almighty for having helped us to get nearer to our mission with the unstinted – both moral and financial – support from our Trustees, Corporates, and philanthropists. Though we feel we have a long way to go to accomplish our well-acclaimed vision towards mitigating the miseries of the most vulnerable and the socially excluded sections of the population, we are extremely happy that we are marching in the right direction by way of making new partnerships with Corporate, National and International NGOs, the Government departments and the well-meaning and benevolent donors.

I, on behalf of the Board of Trustees, thank all the Trustees, well-wishers philanthropists, NGOs, Medical Institutions, and Government departments for providing us with their presence and financial help towards organizing our planned activities and accomplishing them in the manner that the trustees expected and to the satisfaction of the various targeted populations. I am especially indebted to thank our Trustees for their kind motivation in our efforts.

For the welfare of our people, now 25 years down the line, our Trust works on the Concept of
“HERE” – Healthcare, Education, Road Safety & Environment

Healthcare

In our modern society, healthcare and development are closely linked, and effective community participation in development activities plays a key role in achieving desired objectives. Poor people in India spend about 60% of their annual income and a majority resort to borrowing or selling assets to cover these expenses that force them down the poverty ladder. India’s 134th rank in the Human Development Index speaks volumes about the distance we need to cover. About 1.5 million Indian children under the age of 5 died due to diarrhea in 2009. About 1 million Indians die yearly due to preventable diseases.

Medical & Health Camps

Voice Trust recognizes the challenges of the underprivileged to access primary healthcare. We therefore organize free multispecialty health camps across geographies which include a thorough check-up by a doctor, distribution of free medicines along with specialized tests namely BP, Blood Sugar, and Haemoglobin(Hb) monitoring. These timely interventions provide early diagnosis and treatment reducing the incidence of morbidity and mortality. Such health camps address the immediate healthcare needs of marginalized communities.

Education

Education is an important instrument to bring social revolution among all the instruments education is considered the most powerful. Education for all, at all levels, and at all ages is the only remedy to bring about the desired social change in Indian society. The relationship between education and social change takes a dual form-education as an instrument and education as a product. This implies that education as an instrument is used as a means for bringing about desired changes in society and in the later case changes in the educational structure follow as a consequence of changes that have already taken place in the society.

Road Safety

Voice Trust believes that the message on road safety has to be taken to the people only through regular programs; hence these programs have been conducted throughout the year with the help of the Madurai city police. The Madurai district administration has played the main role in our road safety programs, which would not have been possible without the help of our main sponsor for the events Kalyani Honda. Madurai district collector Anshul Mishra inaugurated an exhibition on road safety on October 18, 2012, and flagged off a rally.

Environmental Protection

Voice Trust recognizes the challenges of the underprivileged to access primary healthcare. We therefore organize free multispecialty health camps across geographies which include a thorough check-up by a doctor, distribution of free medicines along with specialized tests namely BP, Blood Sugar, and Haemoglobin(Hb) monitoring. These timely interventions provide early diagnosis and treatment reducing the incidence of morbidity and mortality. Such health camps address the immediate healthcare needs of marginalized communities.

Covid-19 Relief Initiatives

In a country like India, the voluntary sector bridges the gap between the government and the population of the country. In the wake of this deadly pandemic and the lockdown induced by it, our first thoughts were about how to reach out to our children and their communities. Topmost in our minds were the remotest regions of our operational areas and urban slums, their survival, safety, and their health. Therefore, during the lockdown period, Voice Trust’s efforts have been concentrated on reaching all households as far as possible, with basic health and hygiene kits for the children and their families.

Disaster Response & Relief Measures

The role of the NGOs during a disaster is to have a quick response and to try and save as many lives as they can with the given funds. Our Disaster Management initiative works to provide rapid and effective relief measures to the regions impacted by natural calamities. Our strategy encompasses Preparedness, Response, Recovery, and Rehabilitation with an approach of ‘Building Back Safer’. We use post-disaster recovery programming to increase the resilience of buildings and communities to future hazards.

National Health Days Observation

Voice Trust celebrates National Health Days by organizing health awareness workshops and diagnostic camps in schools and villages covered under the various development projects being run by the Foundation. Over the past two decades, we have been striving to promote equal opportunities and better lives for rural and urban poor through its various programs in education, health, sanitation, skills, and livelihoods, thereby not only contributing to national development goals but also the Global Sustainable Development Goals.

Vocational & Skill Development Programs

Improved training and skill development are critical for providing decent employment opportunities to the growing youth population and are necessary to sustain the high growth momentum. Insufficient skills and illiteracy compel the poor section of society to put in more than extra physical effort. Vocational education is education that prepares people to work in various jobs. It is training for a specific vocation in industry or agriculture or trade. This training emphasizes skills and knowledge required for a particular job function.

New Clothes & Food to Needy People

India is home to millions of people who are underprivileged and have limited means to live. Some even struggle to get basic necessities like food, shelter, and clothing. Voice Trust has been working to support disadvantaged elderly people since 1997. As part of our extensive efforts to provide the underprivileged with proper care, the organization provides them with food and clothes from time to time. To give an underprivileged person a pair of clothes is as good as dressing him with self-respect.

Child Sponsorship

Education makes for socially responsible individuals and good citizens. You have the power to change by sponsoring a child’s education. Sponsor-A-Child establishes a one-to-one relationship between the sponsored child and the sponsor parent. By sponsoring a child with Voice Trust, you can bring a significant change by educating a child in society. The education that the child receives will help him/her break free from poverty and over time become a self-reliant, dignified individual and socially responsible citizen.

Telemedicine

Voice Trust has initiated a telemedicine project to serve the needs of communities in the remotest parts. Based on the ‘hub-and-spoke’ model, the project will provide diagnostics and medical consultation services through video conferencing with specialized doctors and equipment available at the telemedicine clinics. The exclusion of any segment of the population from essential health care not only puts that individual at risk but creates an unnecessary and unacceptable risk to the entire population by allowing highly communicable diseases like COVID-19 to spread more easily.
